Exochorda (pearl bush) – radiant spring bloomer with white flowers

Exochorda, better known in the United Kingdom as pearl bush, is one of the most spectacular spring bloomers. In April and May, the shrub transforms into a cloud of pure white flowers. An eye-catcher that brightens up the garden for weeks.

The Proven Winners® range includes Snow Day® Blizzard. This plant combines rich flowering with compact growth and strong branches.

Characteristics of Exochorda

Originally from Asia, Exochorda is a deciduous ornamental shrub that owes its name to its flower buds, which resemble small pearls. As soon as they burst open, countless white flowers appear, completely transforming the shrub.

Most varieties grow to a height of 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Snow Day® Blizzard remains more compact, growing to an average height and width of 150 cm. After flowering, fresh green leaves appear, which often change colour in autumn.

Why choose a pearl bush?

• Spectacular spring bloomer: flowers profusely in April and May.
• Compact & strong: ideal for smaller gardens and borders.
• Ornamental value throughout the seasons: flowers, foliage and autumn colour.
• Low maintenance: hardy, reliable and requires little pruning.

Location: sun for the best flowering

Exochorda prefers a sunny spot, but also tolerates light partial shade. The more sun, the fuller the flowering. The shrub thrives in almost any well-drained soil, as long as the soil is not too wet in winter.

Effortless maintenance

Exochorda requires minimal care:
• Prune immediately after flowering to keep it compact.
• Remove old branches to rejuvenate the shrub.
• Water young plants during dry periods.
• Add compost in spring for even richer flowering.

Use in the garden

Exochorda is very versatile. As a solitary plant, it is a real eye-catcher; in groups, it creates an impressive field of flowers. It combines beautifully with other spring-flowering plants such as Forsythia or Chaenomeles. Thanks to its compact size, Snow Day® Blizzard is also ideal for smaller gardens and borders.
