The best time to make a garden plan

In February, the garden slowly awakens from its winter sleep. Carefully, the first buds appear on trees and shrubs. Meanwhile, it can still be quite cold, so you'd rather be indoors than outside. And that's fine, because there is not much to do in the garden yet. An ideal time to start planning for the new garden season next to the warm stove!

Choose the atmosphere that suits you

Think about the atmosphere you want for your garden. What colours do you like? Do you like a quiet atmosphere or an lavish look? Get inspiration from gardening magazines and websites. Tip: create a mood board!

Sun and shade in your garden

Decide on the layout and consider the position of your garden in relation to the sun. Do you like to read a book in the shade, or do you prefer to drink your morning coffee in the sun? Remember that plants also prefer sun or shade.

Shrubs give structure

In your design, choose a base with shrubs. These are versatile, long-lasting plants that give your garden year-round structure. With their striking flowers, foliage and fruits, shrubs add ornamental value all year round. A big advantage of shrubs is that you only have to plant them once. Because all shrubs from Proven Winners are hardy, you can enjoy them for years.

Four seasons of growth and flowering

Experiment with different types of shrubs, varying in height, colour and flowering time. With a clever mix, you will have a beautiful, flowering garden for four seasons. Think of the spring-flowering Chaenomeles Pink Storm and Deutzia Yuki Snowflake®. And of the summer-flowering Buddleja 'Miss Violet' and Hydrangea Strong Annabelle®. With Rhododendron Bollywood® and Ilex glabra Gembux®, you have green eye-catchers in the garden all year round. Bollywood® also treats you to beautiful bright pink flowers in early spring.

February is perhaps the best month to make plans for the new garden season. When the garden comes back to life, you will be ready!
